What is Vesico-Ureteric Reflux (VUR)?
Vesico-ureteric reflux (VUR) is a condition in which urine flows retrograde, or backward, from the bladder into one or both ureters and then to the renal calyx or kidneys.
This is graded 1 โ 5, with one being very minor and 5 being very severe. Grading is done on the basis of the findings at the cystogram, the x-ray procedure where dye is put into the bladder and observed entering the ureters and kidney.
Grading Of VUR
I: Into a non-dilated ureter.
II: Into the pelvis and calyces without dilatation.
III: Mild to moderate dilatation of the ureter, renal pelvis, and calyces with minimal blunting of the fornices.
IV: Moderate ureteral tortuosity and dilatation of the pelvis and calyces.
V: Gross dilatation of the ureter, pelvis, and calyces, loss of papillary impressions, and ureteral tortuosity.

Types of Vesico-Ureteric reflux
Primary VUR :-Congenital defect in the ureterovesical junction (where the ureter meets the bladder).
Secondary VUR :- Children can have secondary VUR for many reasons, including a blockage or narrowing in the bladder neck or urethra. For example, a fold of tissue may block the urethra. The blockage stops some of the urine from leaving the body, so the urine goes back up the urinary tract.
